We're working with local cyclists and cycle supporting organisations to promote more and safer cycling in our area - with a focus on a route from the roundabout in Hurst to the roundabout in Ditchling.
When we began work on improving our roads for cyclists we surveyed local residents about cycling in Hassocks. We wanted to know which stretch of road through Hassocks we should try to improve for cycling.
We suggested three possibilities which you can see here.
We also asked if there was a better route than these but none was suggested. Far and away the most popular choice was to develop the main road between the roundabout in Hurstpierpoint and the roundabout in Ditchling, taking in Stonepound and Hassocks high street.
Since we began work Stonepound Crossroads has been improved for cyclists making it much safer to use. West Sussex County Council also has plans (as of March 2021) to improve cycle routes from Hurst as far as Downlands School.
